We love the Florida Keys! The beaches are fantastic but there are lots of other fun family activities to enjoy, many of which are also educational. The Dolphin Research Center on Marathon is the best place to see dolphins face-to-face. Theater of the Sea on Islamorada is pet friendly, has a wide variety of animal shows & a small beach where you can swim with parrot fish. Robbies on Tavernier is a great place to rent a kayak to explore the mangroves & also feed the tarpon fish from the dock. We have yet to visit the Turtle Hospital, also on Marathon, but it’s next on our list because we’ve heard great things about it.

When I tell people about all the places we like to travel to they usually ask how we keep kids busy in the car and they usually say something about how excruciating a long car trip can be with kids. Our best strategies for car entertainment are books, movies, tablets and other electronic games like the Nintendo DS. We also pack lots of snacks and drinks and we have certain snacks and drinks that we rarely stock in the house so it seems like a special treat. For instance, the little Gatorade bottles are a special car treat. On a recent trip the kids were getting bored with the usual car time entertainment and we switched to playing a game of guess the Disney character. The leader gave one clue like "bad guy" and then everyone got one guess before the leader would give another clue. This game entertained them for hours and we almost exhausted the list of Disney characters. What are some of your ideas for keeping kids busy in the car?
