5 Free Things to do in Las Vegas With Kids
Updated: Feb 26, 2020
We recently took a trip to #LasVegas and had a lot of fun with our family. When you think of Las Vegas there are probably a lot of things that come to mind that don't seem family friendly like gambling, risque shows and expensive restaurants. However, it might surprise you to know that families can travel to Las Vegas and find plenty of entertainment too. In fact, we saw a lot of strollers being pushed up and down the strip and there were plenty of minivans in our hotel parking lot. We didn't choose Las Vegas strictly for a vacation destination but since we were going to be there for a conference we turned it into a #FamilyTrip. We have been to Las Vegas before and we found lots of great activities for families. I'll highlight a few of these affordable entertainment options after I give our top 5 free and fun things to do in Las Vegas with a family. Be sure to download our free city travel packing list at the end of this blog so you can be prepared for you next family trip.
#1 Free thing to do - Go swimming at your hotel pool
It might be safe to say that anywhere you stay in Las Vegas will offer a hotel swimming pool. It's a great way to cool off and have fun for free (or at least it's already included in your stay). The pools on the strip are famous for luxury and beauty. We stayed at the Elara since my parents gave us a free stay at their timeshare. Thanks Mom and Dad! The pool was awesome for kids! The entire pool was 3ft 6in so my older boys could touch the bottom everywhere. My youngest son loved the sunbathing shelf because it was like a huge baby pool for him. On the second day I was surprised that they also wanted to try the hot tub. It was about 110 degrees outside but whatever; a dip in the hot tub is always nice.

#2 Free thing to do - Visit the Bellagio Hotel & Casino
You should see and smell the incredible flowers at the Conservatory & Botanical Gardens at the Bellagio on every trip to Las Vegas. The amazing fountain show is also a must see and its easy to catch because it occurs every 30 minutes daily from 3pm to 8pm and every 15 minutes from 8pm to midnight. The fountain show includes water, music and lights all choreographed together to create a unique and wonderful experience that is absolutely free for all visitors to Las Vegas. We actually watched the fountain show from inside the hotel because it was so hot (or maybe it just seemed too hot for these Colorado natives). The wonderful flowers on display at the Bellagio are changed and rearranged 4 times per year to celebrate each season (winter, spring, summer and fall). It is a spectacular site and also completely free to the public. We were there in the summer and they had these fantastic swans on display. It was gorgeous!
#3 Free thing to do - The Grand Canal Shops at the Venetian and live shows on the Piazza
The Venetian is a must see hotel and casino on the Las Vegas strip because of the incredible attention to detail in the Italian inspired design. There are indoor canals winding through the shops and authentic Venetian gondolas transporting people along these canals. You will probably hear a song or two sung by the gondoliers as they glide gracefully down the canals. When you enter the beautiful Piazza near the center of the shops there is an authentic gelato stand that is definitely worth a stop. There are live performances in the center of the piazza that will make you feel as if you have visited Venice, Italy right in the middle of Las Vegas, NV and it's absolutely free (except for the totally worth it gelato splurge).

#4 Free thing to do - Caesars Forum Shops at Caesars Palace and the Fall of Atlantis Show
The forum shops and the architecture at Caesars are stunning so it's worth a walk to this hotel and casino just to see it. Near the center of the shops there is a free show called the Fall of Atlantis that includes an impressive display of fire and water. This show plays every hour on the hour so it's easy to catch a showing. Our youngest son thought the dragon at the end was a little scary but he really liked the fish in the aquarium below the show's stage so he was willing to endure the dragon.
#5 Free thing to do - Hershey Store, M&M Store and Coca-Cola Store
The Hershey store is located in the New York, New York Hotel and Casino and they give away free samples at the entrance of the store. We loved that feature! The M&M store and Coca-Cola store are conveniently located across the street from the Hershey store so you can shop for all of your favorite sweet treats in one central location. We found a few things to buy at each store so this wasn't a totally free activity but we buy chocolate pretty regularly anyway. We found the prices at the Coca-Cola store were very reasonable compared to most other places in Las Vegas so if you are buying souvenirs start here. Our favorite thing we found was a large Coca-Cola cooler bag that we can use in the car for all of our road trips to keep our snacks cool.
Other Fun Things for Families in Las Vegas

#2 - The Tournament of Kings show at the Excalibur

Free Packing List
I have created a free download with our city trip travel checklist (see below). On this city packing list I have combined our 10 essential items for every family trip on the left and our 10 essential items for Disney Parks on the right. A day at a Disney theme park and a day sightseeing in a city are pretty similar in terms of things you will need to bring. You can refer to our packing blogs for more explanation of each item on the list: 10 things we bring on every family trip and 10 things to bring to Disney Parks. Some of these things will only be necessary in the car or at your hotel such as movies and pool stuff but you won't need them while you are sightseeing in a city. Some of the items on the essentials list like snacks, a great camera, and first aid supplies should be on your list of things to bring with you on any family outing. All 20 items are great to bring along for most any family trip.
